Why don't the routes seem so efficient?

Many times the routes obtained by Optiroute do not seem as optimal as those you used to do, or those that "logically" seem more efficient.

The first thing to take into account is that many of the criterias that we use to analyze how optimal the Route looks are based on heuristics such as the division by communes, regions or sectors, which doesn’t necessarily have to be the fastest or most short.

However, there are situations in which the route is effectively not optimal due to particular situations:

  • A common case is when the route throws many destinations with rest times, causing the route to take much longer than expected. Generally this occurs when routes are optimized according to distance and not time.
  • It is also possible that on certain occasions, especially when you are occupying more than one vehicle, with many time, priority or skill restrictions, the standard optimization may not be able to find a route that is optimal enough. In this case it is highly recommended to use the exhaustive search.
  • A common mistake is when the route obtained yields travel times longer than expected because the route is occupying a type of vehicle that does not correspond to the desired one.
